Buying entity๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Aarhus University  Publication date2011-11-09  DescriptionThe XRF core scanner is a non-destructive logging technique, which applies X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) for the determination of concentrations of various elements. It will enable the study of large numbers of both marine and lake sediment cores in great detail. This high level of detail will thus make it possible to study variations in mineral composition in order to obtain information on e.g. ocean current speed and direction, precipitation, river runoff, wind stress/direction, iceberg transport, sea-ice extent, erosion on land, catchment areas for lakes as well as palaeo-salinity in near-shore lakes. As the XRF core scanner makes it possible to distinguish between various major and trace elements, it also provides important information on the sediment source, transport pathways and transport media detailed specifications.
