Many Member States are already suffering the harmful effects of the spread of ragweed in Europe. More knowledge is available on the health effects of ragweed in humans and animals, but knowledge gaps remain as regards the direct and indirect negative impacts of ragweed on the wider environment or on different economic sectors. The objective of this study is to develop protective measures to control the introduction and the spread of ragweed in the EU. In addition, this study also aims at quantifying all the current and probable future, direct and indirect harmful effects of common ragweed in particular but not only on animal and public health, biodiversity, on the wider environment and production systems in the EU countries most affected by common ragweed, while making an estimation of the possible future costs if the spread were to reach other European countries.Awards
