Il a vocation egalement a recevoir des competitions de haut niveau. Il est principalement dedie a la pratique de l'athletisme et du football. En complement des pratiques sportives regulieres ont egalement lieu les evenements annuels regionaux, nationaux et internationaux suivants tels que le Decastar, des matchs de l'equipe de France de football U19 et de l'equipe B des Girondins de Bordeaux. Le programme prevoit: renovation et mise au norme de la piste pour le maintien du Decastar, mise aux normes des installations sportives pour rendre possible l'accueil du championnat de France Elite d'athletisme exterieur, elargissement du terrain d'honneur aux normes Championnat de France amateur, reconstruction d'un pole administratif et sportif, reamenagement des locaux sous tribunes, construction d'un batiment de stockage du materiel et d'un batiment technique.
