Die Inseln liegen im Nationalpark und Biospharenreservat Niedersachsisches Wattenmeer und sind als UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe ausgezeichnet. Die Region umfasst eine Flache von 237 m2 Land- und 1.990 km2 Wattflache und hat eine Bevolkerung von rund 41.000 Einwohnern.Die LEADER-Region besteht bereits seit Beginn der Forderperiode 2014 2022 mit dem aktuellen Gebietszuschnitt. Die Grundlage der LEADER-Arbeit bildet das Regionale Entwicklungskonzept (REK), das im Jahr 2021/2022 fortgeschrieben wurde. Die Forderperiode 2023-2027 wurde mit der Fortschreibung unter das Motto "Watt ein Lebensraum" gestellt. Das REK umfasst die vier Handlungsfelder1) Tourismusregion mit Zukunft2) Lebensraum mit Perspektive3) Nachhaltige Region4) LAG-Aktivitaten und Kooperationenin denen Projekte von offentlichen und privaten Akteuren umgesetzt werden konnen.Awards
