Concrete aanleiding is het expireren van de huidige Raamovereenkomsten EASI2010 Cluster rekencentrum hardware. ROAD2016 is georganiseerd rondom twee ODC's (RODC RWS-DJI en ODC SSC-ICT). De beide ODC's verlenen housing- en/of hosting diensten aan verschillende Rijksonderdelen. Om deze diensten aan te kunnen bieden, kopen deze ODC's centraal Datacentermiddelen in. Dit doen de ODC's namens of voor de bij hun aangesloten Rijksonderdelen. Er nemen 42 Rijksonderdelen deel aan deze aanbesteding. De opdracht bestaat uit drie kernonderdelen: Leveren van Datacentermiddelen, Vervullen van reseller functie, Implementeren, installeren, Beheren en Onderhouden van Datacentermiddelen. ROAD2016 is ingericht in twee Percelen. Perceel 1 is rondom ODC SSC-ICT georienteerd en Perceel 2 rondom RODC RWS-DJI.Awards
