De verpleegafdelingen in de H toren zijn in 2005 ingrijpend gerenoveerd; die in de F en G toren dienen nog gerenoveerd te worden. De renovatie is noodzakelijk vanwege functionele veroudering, achterstallig onderhoud en de voorbereiding op de alliantie met het VUmc. De renovatie staat bekend als het project 'herontwikkeling beddentorens'.
