An overview of the proposals can be viewed at www.truroedc.co.uk.This contract will be for the construction of the park and ride parking bays (approximately 1 300 spaces), access roads, junctions, retaining structures, surfacing, traffic signals, traffic management, drainage, footways, street lighting, bus stop infrastructure, cctv, signage, electric car charging points, utility works, hard and soft landscaping. The work is likely to include the:-- construction of a decked parking area to the east of the Cornish Food Centre in which the short stay retail parking overlaps the long stay park and ride parking (approximately 100 parking spaces to each deck),-- construction of a 3 storey hub building to connect the retail parking and long stay parking levels to the main bus access point,-- first stage earthworks for the whole site (approximately 77 000 m3 cut and 117 000 m3 fill).There will also be some elements of Contractor's design for the retaining structures decked structure, hub building along with a lodge building.".The scheme will incorporate high quality design and materials based on the latest best practice, and will build on the experience gained by operating the existing Park and Ride site to the west of Truro which was opened in 2008.The Council is looking to appoint a principal contractor to deliver the various elements of the project.A planning application was submitted for the full site proposals on 13.6.2011. Delivery will be in phases with this contract being the first phase of construction. Separate contracts will be let for the housing and retail elements by the Duchy of Cornwall. It is envisaged that the first phase of construction will begin in Spring 2012 and the park and ride facility will be operational in early 2013.The appointed contractor will be required to register the site under the Considerate Constructor Scheme.Awards
