The role of the LSCB is to safeguard and promote the welfare of children within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The LSCB comprises of representatives from the Council, the Police, Local Probation Board, the Youth Offending Team, Strategic Health Authorities, Primary Care Trusts and Family Courts Advisory and Support Service. Cornwall Council is the accountable body for the LSCB.Following the 2004 Children Act and the publication of Working Together 2006, discussion was held across the Devon and Cornwall Peninsula between the four LSCBs and the 4 NHS Primary Care Trusts to establish a child death review process. After an options appraisal, it was agreed to adopt a jointly funded single Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) which would report to all 4 LSCBs.CDOPs are statutory and accountable to the LSCB Chair. CDOPS are responsible for reviewing information on all child deaths and Chapter 7 of Working Together 2010 sets out the statutory procedures that the CDOP should follow when a child diesUndertake an overview review of all child deaths including a multiagency rapid response to unexpected child deaths (when appropriate and excluding babies who are stillborn and planned terminations of pregnancy carried out within the law).Undertake a paper based review based on information available from those who were involved in the case of the child, both before and immediately after the death, and other sources including perhaps the coroner (A multiagency expert panel review of all child deaths (birth to 18th birthday)).CDOPs may serve more than one LSCB and the South West Peninsula LSCBs of Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay have agreed to manage the overview of child deaths in the region through collective child death overview panel arrangements. The Peninsula CDOP is a standing sub group to all four of the Peninsula LSCBs, commissioned by Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly LSCB on behalf the Peninsula LSCBs.The CDOP itself consists of a permanent core membership drawn from the key organisations represented on the LSCB with flexibility to coopt other relevant professionals as appropriate.Adjudicaciones
