Hydraulic system particle contamination is monitored to ensure the cleanliness of the fluid complies with the limits set in STANAG 3510 1.2 The instrument must be capable of accurately counting particles in mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic fluids and come with a bottle sample introduction system. The instrument must be reliable, robust and require a minimum level of skill and maintenance for an operator to use. 2. Detailed Specification 2.1 The instrument will be capable of accurately counting and sizing solid contamination in hydraulic fluids in the following size ranges: >2um, >5um, >15um, >25um, >50um, >100um. The results must be counts per 100ml of fluid. 2.2 The instrument will be capable of handling fluids in the viscosity range of 2 to 100 centistokes. 2.3 The instrument will be capable of supporting calibration using ISO 11171, ACFTD, MTD and latex spheres. 2.4 The instrument will be capable of displaying and printing classification of particle numbers and sizes according to ISO 4406, AS 4059 and NAS 1638. 2.5 Particle count repeatability must be better than 5%. 2.6 The instrument will allow the end user the option to enter data for individual systems to create an auditable trail. 2.7 The bottle sample introduction system shall be compatible with solvents such as petroleum ether to allow cleaning of the system. 2.8 The instrument will be capable of operating from 240v UK mains. 2.9 The instrument will require minimal routine maintenance with the end user. 2.10 The instrument will be supplied with the necessary tools to carry out any routine maintenance and any components requiring routine maintenance shall be easily accessible. 2.11 The instrument will be bench top and no more than a maximum of 800mm width, 500mm depth and 1000mm height. 3. Delivery 3.1 The instrument will be supplied to 1710NAS calibrated, with a full set of operating manuals and with all necessary accessories and consumables. 3.2 The supplier will provide training for up to four people at 1710NAS on the use of the instrumentation. 4. Maintenance Support 4.1 The supplier will provide a quote for maintenance of the instrumentation. The quote will include two maintenance visits per annum where the instrumentation will be serviced and calibrated using traceable calibration standards and a calibration certificate issued. The quote will cover a period of three years. 5. Health, Safety and Environmental Requirements 5.1 The supplier will ensure that the deliverable items will be CE marked in accordance with European legislation and conform to all current legislation regarding safety of laser products.
