The Army holds an agreement with the Skills Funding Agency of England (SFA) to provide a grant towards funding the delivery of apprenticeships and other work-based learning qualifications to soldiers as part of their continuing professional development. This requirement covers apprenticeship delivery to the Royal Regiment of Artillery (RA). It should be noted that delivery of this requirement is wholly dependent upon the availability of SFA funding. Because SFA funding is provided on an annual basis, any contract would be let on the basis of one year certain, with 4 further optional one year periods or part thereof commencing 1.8.2011. The methodology and location for delivery varies according to the requirements of each arm or service. In general, delivery commences during Phase 2 Trade Training and continues into the Field Army. Some programmes require bespoke functional skills courses to be run in various locations and training establishments including the UK, Germany, Cyprus and others. Delivery can be as structured courses or more informal in evenings and spare time. Potential contractors will be required to ensure that their proposals for delivery allow for incorporating emerging Government initiatives. Contractors will be required to maintain centre approval status and comply with all current and future Government and Army requirements such as CRB checks and safeguarding of learners and protection of data. In addition, the contractors will be required to adhere to current and future Army apprenticeships quality standards and processes. Information given below is based upon historic figures, is indicative only and cannot be guaranteed. Average in learning includes learners on an agreed break in learning, largely through operational deployments or career courses. The Royal Regiment of Artillery, consists of 15 Regular Army Regiments based in the UK and Germany. Depending upon trade specialisation, learners undertake apprenticeship and advanced apprenticeship programmes in communication technologies, carry and deliver goods, and logistics operations management. Most delivery commences in Larkhill; some learners are inducted from the Field Army. All apprenticeships are completed in Field Army regiments. For 2010/2011 the estimated delivery is based upon a profile of 894 starts and 1 285 achievements.
