Equally it is acknowledged that it is not always easy for people to access accommodation, particularly if they previously had poor tenancy history. It can also be very difficult for people who are trying to stay substance free to live in a locality or in accommodation where people may well be "using" and where dealers know that people are vulnerable. During 2010 - 2012 two pilot projects were set up in Suffolk to tackle this identified need. The Suffolk DAAT Partnership undertook extensive evaluation of the benefits of such schemes; the outcome of this evaluation has demonstrated the positive impact on the lives of the clients involved. Following evaluation of the pilot projects, the Suffolk DAAT Partnership is commissioning a service which will provide some of those clients accessing substance misuse treatment services with access to suitable and stable accommodation. The service will be offered in two main elements. Advocacy and Support Service The county wide service will offer advocacy and support in each of the three main localities (Ipswich, Lowestoft and Bury St. Edmunds) to clients who are considered to have a housing need via the STARS Advocacy and Support Service. It is therefore vital that staff in the service have an in depth knowledge of the accommodation options available throughout the county and have experience of the barriers facing this client group. Intensive Support Service The Intensive Support Service will offer both high level support and suitable accommodation to those clients with a long history of substance misuse who are unable to find accommodation elsewhere. The service will offer tailored support to enable clients to achieve recovery from substance misuse and gain the skills required to eventually live independently.Adjudicaciones
