Buying entity๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Highways Agency Buying unitnot reported Publication date2012-08-31 Contest statusnot reported DescriptionHelical piles have been promoted as a method to allow the rapid installation of foundations in a variety of ground conditions. They have been used on a number of sites to support gantries and mast structures. They are classed as screw piles in BS EN 12699:2001. However the design philosophy is not covered by BS EN 12699:2001 and there has been an inconsistent approach to the design. Ideally the design methodology should be based on existing standards using conventional geotechnical design (by calculations or by driving formula verified by testing) However suppliers have developed their own empirical design formulae and it can be difficult to demonstrate a correlation between those and traditional methods.
