The overall strategy is to remove all structures situated above existing ground level and leave foundations. With the exception of reinforced concrete floor slabs which are safely supported by natural ground, which shall remain. Also included in the contract is the construction of 2 No. parapets to Network Rail and Sunderland City Council standards. The major elements of the works will comprise the demolition and deconstruction and safe removal/disposal of the following: * Former Kwik Save supermarket constructed of steel lattice truss girders, steel beams, columns and brick in-fill panelled walls; * Internal mezzanine flooring; * Steel purlins and roof deck; * Reinforced concrete dual level car park and access ramp; * Spiral reinforced concrete ramp; * Cantilever reinforced concrete floor slabs; * Simply supported pre-fabricated reinforced concrete slabs; * Simply supported reinforced concrete pedestrian walkways; * Partially pre-fabricated steel framed pedestrian footbridge (approx. 100.0m long); * Reinforced concrete columns and beams; * Asbestos cement and any other asbestos containing materials; * All services located within the building footprint; * Escalator; * Pre-cast reinforced concrete staircase; * Building services typical of supermarket; * Slabs and foundations where supported by columns and beams; * Pre-cast concrete and internal brick walls; * Gates and palisade fencing; * Restaurant and canteen appliances. Other elements of the works include: * The majority of inert material to be retained on site; * Site levels to be raised with compacted site won crushed inert material; * Construction of new vehicle and pedestrian restraint on Park Lane at the existing car access ramp; * Extension of existing parapet on Holmeside Bridge to Network Rail Standards; * Reinstatement works to the rear of Park Lane retail unit; * Removal of an existing fire escape serving the nightclub; * Infilling of any voids, basements and grading steep level changes post demolition; * Drainage provisions during demolition and once the site has been cleared to prevent run-off entering adjacent land and property; * Provision of perimeter protection measures to meet the requirements of Sunderland City Council and Network Rail; * All demolition and temporary works in the proximity of the Network Rail apparatus to be to the satisfaction of Network Rail prior to works commencing; Structural calculations plus independent check are required to satisfy Network Rail of the structural integrity of any structure adjacent to their boundary.Awards
