In 2010 the Government introduced electricity feed-in tariffs (FIT) to accelerate the implementation of technologies that generate on-site renewable electricity. The current FIT rates are considered attractive and ultimately reward investment in renewable technologies. Oxfordshire County Council aims to participate in, and benefit from, the FIT scheme through the implementation of solar PV systems on several of its properties. The Feed-In Tariff will be revised for projects installed after April 2012, and will depend on the uptake of solar PV at the time. Hence the timing of the PV installations is crucial. To maximise financial gains and carbon benefits, the Council aims to have as many projects as possible registered under the FIT scheme by March 2012.Awards
