The borough is approximately split between 80,347 low-rise and 46,782 high-rise properties. Due to limited storage capacity some of the high-rise properties require twice or thrice weekly collections. The service at present also provides 7 nightly collections from domestic properties above commercial premises in the 5 town centres of the borough. Other ancillary services include: special collections of bulky waste, domestic clinical waste collections, bulk bin maintenance, recycling sack deliveries to all low-rise properties, garden waste collections and Christmas tree collections. This street cleansing service provides for the comprehensive street cleansing of the borough. In addition to the removal of litter and detritus the service also require the removal of weeds and fly tips, the emptying of litterbins, the emptying of on-street public recycling banks, a bridge washing service and an emergency/rapid response service.Awards
