A review from 2010 recommends extending 18 passing loops on the Dovre railway in order to double the capacity by 2020. Kvam passing loop is the first one. The main objective of the construction project at Kvam is to facilitate 600 m long goods trains being able to pass each other without unecessary delay on the stretch between Lillehammer and Dombas on the Dovre railway. The work on the technical detailed plan shall, in addition to the Norwegian National Railway Administration's general requirements as regards traffic performance and safety, fulfil the following result aims: -- Establish passing possibilities for 600 m long goods trains; -- Facilitate simultaneous arrivals; -- Remove level crossings within the plan area.Awards
