Buying entity๐ฌ๐ง Procurement and Commercial Department Buying unitnot reported Publication date2014-11-12 Contest statusnot reported DescriptionThe programme will run over 5 years (2014/15-2019/20) to support interventions designed to invest in human capital by improving early childhood development and reducing the prevalence of stunting (low height for age) in Tanzanian children under 5 years old, by focusing on the first 1000 days of life from conception. The goal of this programme is to reduce the prevalence of stunting in Tanzanian children under-5 years by 7 % in 6 to 8 of the regions with greatest need. The programme will support interventions to build knowledge, change attitudes, strengthen practice and expand services in order to prevent low birth weight and stunting in children under 5 years, to increase health and nutrition in the poorest households, and to increase height for age in young children. This will be achieved through an evidence-based approach to social behaviour change communication which is delivered by supervised, retrained facility and community resource persons whilst ensuring a range of sectors (such health and WASH) are optimally engaged and delivering on nutrition outcomes. District authorities will be supported to take the lead and build capacity for planning, programming, budgeting and financial management to sustainably address stunting. DFID will fund UNICEF and a managing agent/consortium to deliver at scale, in up to 8 regions (3 through UNICEF).Awards
