Charter of a vessel to act as the UK Ice Patrol Ship, operating under the White Ensign, for 3 years firm from early 2011, with 2 x 1 year options to extend. A purchase option at the end of the charter may also be considered. Ship will operate in the Antarctic in the Austral Summer and can be expected to reach all Ice Stations within the British Antarctic Territory during this period. The vessel will also be required to transit to and from the UK and may be expected to work in the Tropics. Ship will be crewed by Royal Navy personnel who will be expected to undertake basic maintenance. Ship will need to be capable of being modified to carry client equipment (hydrographic survey, oceanographic equipment, military communications, light self protection armament and additional boats). Payment will be in Sterling. Requirements: - The vessel is to be capable of accessing all UK research stations within British Antarctic Territories and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands during the Austral Summer, - DP capability to support hydrographic operations, - self sustainability in remote areas without external support (typical mission length of 45 days), - minimum of 75 berths but highly desirable to have in excess of 100, - ability to carry at least 8 TEUs of cargo within a hold. Due to embarked workshops in cargo spaces environment must be appropriate for regular and frequent occupation by ship's staff, - crane to allow loading/discharge of cargo TEUs o Vessel to be capable of operating on F76, - ship to be compliant with all extant Antarctic Treaty requirements with special attention paid to environmental pollution prevention, - ship to be able to berth unaided in winds up to 30 knots, - ability to deploy/recover a helicopter (up to Super Puma). Ship will be required to carry at least 30 tonnes aviation fuel. In Service Support: - Contractor will be responsible for maintaining the ship In Class and undertaking the appropriate maintenance to achieve this, - Contractor will be required to deliver appropriate familiarisation training to ship's crew on delivery, - Contractor will be required to provide all spares throughout charter period.Awards
