The Phase 1 evaluation and the consultation for Phase 2 identified that Religious and faith based groups are among the key PEACE stakeholders in the North East. They want their communities to progress and not revert back to the way things were during the conflict. They are conscious that young people in their communities have no experience of the conflict and are in danger of viewing it naively without realizing the full implications of the legacy of the conflict. Church and faith based groups are facing dwindling congregations; as a result they are reluctant to voice opinions on peace. Under Phase 1 the Faith communities learned valuable lessons regarding peacebuilding which needs to be further explored and developed. There is a need to continue to create opportunities to share peacebuilding and learning from faith based work with other not engaged. Project Outline. The project will increase the confidence and ability of individuals and communities to explore faith based issues. It will support faith based groups and networks to explore sectarianism and racism through a bespoke programme of learning, development and bottom up initiatives across all of the six council areas. This will involve work at local council level culminating in more collaboration and sharing of experiences at a cross council and cross border level. The project will work with existing faith based forums and networks and will work to establish such forums where none exist but are needed.Awards
